The Esplanade Merchant – A Heritage Queenslander, Frozen in Time

Frozen in time and impossibly romantic, The Esplanade Merchant is the kind of home people spend years searching for. This is not a reproduction, not a renovation dressed up to look old – this is the real thing. A grand Federation-era Queenslander that has quietly held its place in history, carrying the elegance of another century in every VJ wall, soaring ceiling and perfectly proportioned hallway. Walking through her feels less like inspecting a house and more like stepping onto the set of a period film.

The home showcases all the hallmarks of a classic turn-of-the-century Queenslander – wide wraparound verandahs, decorative timber joinery, French doors that catch the breeze, and generous rooms designed for a slower, more graceful way of living. The central corridor runs like a spine through the residence, opening to multiple wings and creating a layout rarely seen today. Original timber floors, high ceilings with traditional battens, and beautifully framed openings speak to a time when homes were built by craftsmen, not production lines.

With nine bedrooms and an expansive footprint requiring a four-section relocation, this is a residence of serious presence. It offers endless possibilities – a boutique accommodation venture, a private estate, or the ultimate restoration project for someone who understands the value of authenticity. The bones are honest, the proportions magnificent, and the character completely irreplaceable.

We are utterly enamoured by this home. She wears her age with pride, unpolished and dignified, waiting for the next custodian to write the next chapter. Opportunities to secure a Queenslander of this scale and pedigree are vanishingly rare. The Esplanade Merchant isn’t just a house – it’s a piece of history looking for a future.
